Sexy Serums
Ya’ll know the feeling of opening a fresh new product, it cost a fortune, but its silky, feels good, and makes your skin look better in 2 weeks flat. That my friends is a SEXY. A$$. SERUM. As I like to call them! Also, that’s TNS advance +, if you haven’t tried it yet, you’re really missing out.
Un-Sexy Serums
Then you have your UN-sexy serums. The ones you put on your face everyday because you know you should, but they don’t always feel great, they don’t change your skin quickly, and they make your skin purge with acne, or feel dry and flakey. Those are UN-SEXY SERUMS. These are things like sunscreen or retinol.. Bla. Necessary, but not fun.
However, if you’re spending money on the sexy serums, you should already be using the un-sexy ones, because those are the ones that you will thank yourself 5, 10, 20 years from now, for using them when you did!
Retinol increases how quickly our skin cells “turnover” or regenerate , which consequently this process slows down as we age, so we’re left with dead skin cells sitting on our face clogging our pores and making our wrinkles look worse. So when retinol ramps up this process, it basically is cleaning your skin from the inside out, pushing all the gunk to the surface and getting rid of the dead skin cells. This shows up as dry skin and a “purging” of breakouts. Totally UN-sexy.
So some tips for using retinol:
- Start of the lowest dose. If your retinol doesn’t tell you the concentration, then it’s too cheap and you need to throw it away.
- Wean on to it- don’t use this every day right off the bat, start at 2 times per week and advance as tolerated.
- Feeling dry- add an additional moisturizer and/or HA!
- Wear spf – retinol makes your skin more sensitive to the sun, so don’t skip this step.
Moral of the story. You need the sexy AND the un-sexy serums, to really see your maximum results! We love the Skinmedica retinol, sunscreens, and TNS advance! You can get them online here with free 2-day shipping!

Sunscreen is non-negotiable. I don’t care if you have to try 100 different ones, find one you like and get it on your face! Also, SPF in your moisturizer or foundation DOES NOT COUNT.
